We are delighted to announce three new web design and digital marketing contracts won this week. Firstly, we are proud to welcome two new clients into the Alienation fold, MCE Scotland and Montgomery Litho Group. We will also be extending our relationship with Stringers Music.
Montgomery Litho Group (MLG) is more than just a print company. It offers a complete range of services from logistics and stock management, to printing, die cutting and binding. Its people and quality of service make it one of the top print houses in Scotland, and this has ensured that the business has grown into markets across the UK and abroad. The challenge for Alienation is to communicate this broad scope within a clear and concise web presence. We will be providing our full range of services, web design, web development and digital marketing to develop a state of the art MLG web presence.
MCE Scotland is a leading provider of Building and Energy Management Control Systems. Using the latest technology, MCE helps managers of large buildings to accurately control the amount of energy they use. By partnering up with some of the leading lights such as Cylon and T.A.C, MCE ensures that its services are at the leading edge of the industry. Alienation will be providing web design, development and internet marketing to develop an MCE website which reflects this prominence.
We will be continuing our fantastic relationship with Stringers Music by creating a new website to replace the one we originally designed for them in 2003. The new website will be fully content managed, with added functionality to enhance the customer experience. In particular, we will be looking to advance the e-commerce facility which will support the sales generated by Stringers’ stores in Edinburgh and London.

Somerston's new web presence clicks up success |
|
|
|
Friday, 05 June 2009 14:09 |
|
Top hotel franchise operators Somerston Hotels has clicked with visitors to its new website, designed and built by Glasgow-based new media agency Alienation Digital.
Somerston Hotels is one of the UK’s most successful franchisees of the Express by Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Ramada Encore Hotels brands.
The company launched its new suite of websites at the end of March 2009, and attracted a 17% increase in visiting traffic within the first month.
In the same period, 43% more visitors were referred to the site from Google as a result of a carefully managed search engine optimisation campaign.
Somerston Hotel’s Leisure Marketing Manager Lesley-Ann Cardow said; “We believe that our online presence is critical to the continued success of our hotels in these challenging times.
“We asked Alienation Digital for a complete overhaul of our websites to engage our customers, highlight the benefits of our properties, portray a professional online image and ultimately drive incremental revenue growth in a competitive market.
“Alienation Digital interpreted our brief and worked hand-in-hand with us to create a fantastic new website which continues to meet our objectives.”
Alienation Digital won the project following a competitive tender process in which agencies were briefed to present 33 unique hotel presences without the cost and complexity of a separate website for each hotel.
Alienation Digital’s MD Neil Barr said: “Our solution was to unite the hotel websites within one content management system, with individual templates designed for each of the four separate brands, including a central portal site for the Somerston Hotels brand.
“We concentrated on using our search engine optimisation skills to increase traffic to the site and our designs skills to make it a pleasure for visitors to use.
“We are delighted the new site has produced such impressive results.”
You can visit the new Somerston Hotels website at http://www.somerstonhotels.co.uk, where you will find links to each of the individual hotel websites and a special offers website.

|
Leading edge new media company Alienation Digital is celebrating its most successful year ever by making the charity sector an offer it can’t refuse.
Managing Director Neil Barr said; “Following our most successful year to date and our continued success in 2009, I am delighted to be able to give something back by offering the agency free for a day.”
“We aim to help as many charities as possible during our Free Charity Day, but we can’t say exactly how many until we identify their needs.”
“Our experience in the Third Sector has shown that charities can really reap the rewards of a great website, by using it as a tool for fundraising, volunteer recruitment, or simply to communicate their work to the people that need them most.”
“Our dedicated team of experts could help charities by improving their website, enhancing their search engine rankings or introducing them to the delights of Twitter or video e-marketing.”
Alienation’s decision to thank the market by working free for a day means charities will have Alienation’s entire resources at their disposal. That is one day of 15 experts’ time dedicated to helping the selected charity raise more revenue.
Jackie Beesley whose charity the Beatson Insititute for Cancer Research is an Alienation Digital client said: “They were very professional, excellent to deal with and came up with great designs for a website that more than meets our demands.”
Alienation Digital’s customers range from the public to the private sector and include numerous charities throughout the UK, including Acevo, Children’s Hospice Association Scotland, Richmond Fellowship and Cranstoun Drug Services.
Neil Barr believes Alienation has survived the economic gloom through its understanding of how to deliver return on investment to customers, an approach he says will work well for charities.
To be considered for some pro bono work, simply call 0141 575 9700 or e-mail
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

This could be the fastest return on investment your charity has ever made!

Three May[jor] Contract Wins this Month |
|
|
|
Friday, 22 May 2009 09:23 |
|
May has been a fantastic month of new business for us, and although there’s still a way to go, we just couldn’t wait to tell you about these three great new contract wins:
Website design for the MOBO Awards, a web presence for TBD-UK and intranet development for CHAS.
MOBO Awards Website Design
In 2009, the MOBO Awards will be held in Glasgow. It’s the first time the awards ceremony has been held outside of London since it began in 1995. Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has asked Alienation Digital to design a website that will be the central online portal for fans of the event. The site will initially go live in June and new features will be added right up until the awards ceremony on September 30th.
TBD-UK Website Design
Funded by the medical research council and based at the University of Strathclyde, TBD-UK is a research body set up to focus on Tuberculosis research. A site has been commissioned to promote the work of the group to a wider audience, and help its mission to promote further research in the area. The site will allow TBD-UK to integrate further into the research community and provide useful tools such as a molecule database that allows scientists to compare their work from remote locations.
CHAS Intranet Development
Continuing our fantastic relationship with the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland, we have been commissioned to develop an intranet that will allow staff across the various hospice sites to keep in touch with each other, keep abreast of the latest information and remotely access services such as room bookings.

New Business Link Events Website Designed to Raise the Profile of Free Business Advice |
|
|
|
Wednesday, 20 May 2009 17:15 |
|
As unemployment figures rise above 2 million, and small businesses close at a rate of almost 300 a week across the UK, it has never been more important for businesses and the unemployed to be able to gain access to the impartial, expert advice that could help them through the recession.
Today sees the launch of Events North East, the new Business Link website which will be the online home of everything you need to know about Business Link events in the north east of England.

Business Link provides free business advice to organisations of all shapes and sizes, to help them beat the recession by improving in areas such as financial management, leadership, and marketing.
Alienation Digital won a competitive tender to build an events website which would make Business Link events more accessible to the public as well as making the events programmes easier for administrators to manage. The site has been designed intuitively so that options unfold that help the visitor narrow their search until they find what they’re looking for.
True to the Business Link philosophy, accessibility has been enhanced through the search engine optimisation of key pages on the site, so that events are not only clearly laid out but also easy to find through searches on Google, Yahoo and MSN.

The new system features a more efficient and user friendly user interface that has been developed based on user feedback. If you think your business could benefit from using an online referral system, and would like to find out more, please contact us with your questions.

Web Design for £270million Government Project |
|
|
|
Friday, 03 April 2009 14:01 |
|
It is not every day that the Government announces the launch of a new £270 million programme. In April 2008 the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) announced a £270 milllion programme to provide world class youth facilities for communities across England. The funding is being delivered through the Big Lottery Fund, who have committed £240 million so far to 62 projects.
The myplace project demanded a class leading website to attain the project goals of communicating to, engaging with, and inspiring young people to become actively involved in their communities' projects. In keeping with the demands of this target audience, the site was has user led content and using social networking tools to allow users to engage with each other and display their work.

Alienation Digital were awarded the contract for the website as a
result of achieving the goals of other organisations, such as the newly
opened Warwick International Digital Lab. Alienation worked closely
with leading Economic Development Consultants Hall Aitken, who led the
overall support and development contract.
Take a look at what’s happening in the animated flash banner, designed to visually communicate the story of the myplace project – there’s always something different going on.
Register for the website and you can stay connected to your projects through your very own customisable, interactive myplace page. One of the key features of this is a ‘drag and drop’ mechanism that lets you move modules around to design your own homepage.
You can also follow myplace on Vimeo, Facebook, Bebo and Flickr to keep up to date with the latest developments. |
35 New Websites Built for Top Hotel Chain |
|
|
|
Monday, 30 March 2009 12:59 |
|
Somerston Hotels owns and operates Express by Holiday Inn, Holiday
Inn Express and Ramada Encore hotels across the UK; it is the largest
Express by Holiday Inn franchisee in the country, was the first group
to open a Ramada Encore Hotel in the UK, and is leading the way in the
global initiative to rebrand Holiday Inn Express.
Alienation Digital won a competitive tender to redesign the Somerston Hotels website, uniting four distinct brands into one manageable online presence, whilst retaining the individual character of each brand with individual micro site templates.
Alienation developed a total of 35 websites which are all interlinked using a bespoke hotel management component which takes information from each individual hotel website and displays it on the Somerston Hotels and Special Offers web sites. This ensures that hotel information is kept right up to date across each individual website, making information management much simpler for the Somerston Hotels marketing team.
An interactive map on the homepage unites all of the hotels within an intuitive, accessible and easy to use menu system. The map allows regular visitors to Somerston Hotels to instantly select one of the group’s hotels whilst also providing a simple method of navigation for new site users.
Alongside the design and development of the website, Alienation provided a programme of Digital Marketing which included a comprehensive review of the online competitors in the UK hotels market, search engine optimisation and a strategy for ongoing site development.
Lesley-Ann Cardow, Marketing Manager "From initial discussions right through to delivery of our site I found Alienation to be approachable, flexible, professional and responsive. Both technically and creatively they have created a site which absolutely fulfilled my brief to them and exceeded my expectations.
Unlike a number of web designers, the team at Alienation were able to articulate and explain the process and detail of our website and the whole process without jargon. They're happy to explain the technical aspects if you want, but can also explain things in a user-friendly way.
Despite the scale of the project and extent of bespoke development we required the team went above and beyond to make sure that we got what we wanted and needed."

|
|
|
Wednesday, 25 February 2009 13:48 |
|
Alienation are delighted to announce the launch of our latest website, designed for the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).
The objective of the website is to promote the great work done by CHAS, to a wide and varied audience. The website provides an accessible online platform for compelling content, attractive imagery and integrated video, telling the story of life at CHAS from those who benefit from its services. It is also an important marketing channel to attract support for the hospice and includes an online gift shop, links for online donations and information about applying to volunteer.
Bespoke features designed for the website include an interactive picture wall, which allows the web user to navigate through featured sections of the site, and animated characters which communicate the approachability, openness and sociability of the organisation.
From start to finish, the project has been a shining example of an excellent working partnership between Alienation and CHAS, as illustrated by the following testimonials from the people we worked with:
Karen Playfair, Marketing Consultant
“It has been great working with Alienation on our website. You have done a fantastic job, with minimal input from us – the whole process has been an absolute pleasure”

|
Alienation Digital has been recommended by our clients for inclusion in the prestigious Recommended Agencies Register (RAR), which features the most highly regarded agencies in the United Kingdom.
The register is generated entirely from independent research, ensuring that the agencies they define as ‘hidden gems’ can be rated alongside more established agencies.
This is how the RAR puts it:
“Only the best agencies make our list. Not the richest. Not the ones with the most friends. Or the ones who pick up the most lunch tabs. Just those who are quite simply the best at what they do. Only they make the Recommended Agency Register.”
Alienation scored highly in the following categories:
- Professionalism
- Account Management
- Creativity
- Strategic Thinking
- Effectiveness
- Value for Money
We're currently finalising our entry for the RAR book, so keep an eye out for us when it is distributed in the spring.
